Roxy in person

Before the influx of kids’ channels we have today, there was 1- KTV. This channel was all the buzz in the world of kids’ entertainment; and the child presenters on it- adored country wide! Roxy Burger, first found fame on the set of KTV and today we have come to know her as the incredibly beautiful and bubbly MTV presenter. Follow on to find out Roxy has developed her personal brand with a mix of her occupational self- broadcaster, brand strategist and business owner, and her personal self- dreamer, a creative and free spirit.

When it comes to entertainment, Roxy has been everywhere, onscreen, behind the scenes and in-between! She has produced, presented on TV and radio, and has stared in Survivor South Africa. Whether behind the scenes or on screen Roxy stays true to who she is, “I don’t pretend on screen – who I am on TV is who I am in real life and I think the fact that I don’t hide behind a persona appeals to viewers”. Her days at KTV are precious memories where her raw talent was discovered and nurtured “my presenting ability was crafted by the many amazing Directors and Producers I’ve worked with; especially at KTV where people really cared about nurturing talent” she says.

The entertainment industry is synonymous for gilts, glamour and being famous. We are all affected by it in 1 way or another; it is a platform for so many of histories greats and we often use it to measure greatness but there are ups and downs. The drive- it- like- you- own- it attitude is what’s needed according to Roxy, as she says “sometimes, hard work does not pay off. People rise to the top and are famous for being famous and not because they are talented. It’s a fickle business but you get used to it”.

Presenting on MTV certainly comes with perks such as attending the MTV Video Music Awards in NYC and interviewing some of the biggest names in the business, Maroon 5, Rihanna and Chris Brown! The list of interviewees Roxy has had, range from MTV Video Music winners to international talk show host Larry King and past president Thabo Mbeki. The list of her influencers also span the globe, including radio personality, TV host and producer Ryan Seacrest, fresh vivacious radio and TV presenter Anele Mdoda and every fashionatas dream wardrobe owner Gwen Stefani. Anele has a special place in Roxy’s career and life as Roxy picked Anele as the person she would love to work with again- its seems as if the brilliant collaboration on 5FM’S TV show has long sparked a flame that continues to burn.

There’s no question about it, if you are presenting for MTV you best have a keen sense of fashion. In October 2013, Roxy launched an online shopping venture with business partner and London-based Stylist, Sarah Ann Styles. This was not new ground for Roxy as her incredible fashion sense was showcased when she presented Season 2 of SABC3s Flash, a news entertainment platform. Roxy accredits her business acumen to her father, no doubt that she will be channeling her father’s best advice into her fashion franchise.

For many of us, Roxy Burger would be the role model of all role models in South African entertainment; at only 26 and with so much success! Interestingly enough Roxy herself has more than 1 role model, these include Barack Obama, Steve Jobs and Georgina Chapman (founder of Marchesa) to name a few. This could be the reason why her fans are so diverse; she encompasses various attributes that people can identify with. With a global list of role models her interests are stimulated by issues all over the globe but with the national elections set for May 7-just a few weeks away - and the country in turmoil after the Nkandla report was published, her focus is on “our government, our politics and the upcoming elections”.
